Apple TV – White Screen of Death
A couple of weeks ago I purchased an Apple TV. This is something I have always wanted, but never broke down and purchased. Well I finally did, and I’ve got to say that I have been very happy with it. I rented a movie to watch with my wife the first day I had it hooked up, and haven’t used it too much since, the reason being I need to setup my iTunes library on my HTPC to work the way I want it with the AppleTV.
So tonight I was home at a decent hour from work, and we decided to watch a family movie after dinner. The children decided they wanted to watch “Get Smart Bruce & Lloyd: Out of Control”. I paid the $4.99 to rent the flick in HD and it started the download. About 5 minutes later I got the message that the flick was ready for playback, and I hit the play button. This is when the fun started. It only showed a white screen and nothing else, if I fast forwarded I could see the name of the chapter, but still no video. So of course I turned to the all knowing google, after a quick search I was able to find this post on the Apple Support Discussions Forum. Basically the resolution to this problem was a restart, which after thinking about it myself made perfect sense, since the Apple TV is basically a trimmed down Mac Mini. So I am happy to say that after the restart we were able to watch the flick, and enjoy some time together as a family.
